Team Principal Ivan Messina began riding motorcycles at age 8. He began racing in 1996 after building his own vintage BMW R75/5 racebike out of junk parts with the help of some friends. In 2000 Ivan was crowned AFM Vintage Champion. Ivan continues to race the R75 with great success in AHRMA and WERA racing. In 2003 he raced a modern motorcycle for the first time, and in 2004 he joined some friends racing a modern Kawasaki in the WERA National Endurance Series. The team performed decently, and Ivan became hooked on the challenges of endurance racing.
In 2005 Ivan officially took over ownership of the team (then known as "Mad Kaw Racing") which led to multiple top 5 finishes, including a best finish of 2nd in class at the grueling Willow Springs Raceway in California.
In 2006 Team Motorrad was the inaugural entry in the first MOTO-ST event, The 8-hours at Daytona, riding an R1200S BMW. In 2007 Team Motorrad completed the entire MOTO-ST series with a best finish of 3rd in Iowa.
